Location: Hanover County Court Complex

Time: 8-8:30 am

Weather: 71 degrees, no wind, 92% humidity (this was at the end - may have been slightly cooler at the beginning)

Age: none for anyone

Track Design

1 - Followed the island curbs around. One mid track article. Food every 10-15 steps. HITT.

2 - Started along a curb, crossed opening, followed next curb. End article only. Food every 15-20 steps. HITT.

Saber did great. Turns out with enough food and no age asphalt might not be so bad for tracking. I ran her first track and it was so short and easy that I decided to do a second one after we did Syd.

For the second track she got out of the car ready to go. She was excited and looking for the track. That made me happy. So next outing I might need to make it a little more challenging but I was super happy that she was happy.

Track Design:

1 - straight line of hot dogs about a step apart with HITT

2 - on grass 10 s/w with food on 5 scuff and 5 walk. 4 rotation. article with food at the end.

3 - on grass 10 s/w with food on 5 scuff and 4, 5, 6 walk, 4 rotations

4 - on grass 7 s/w with food mid scuff and mid walk. Crossed a sidewalk (food on sidewalk)

Syd did great! Clearly the first track was not a real challenge but I want to go ahead and start introducing him to non-grass. He did well on the next three tracks too. He did sit on track 2. I he was meandering further than I wanted to allow and when he gets too much pressure stops. I just encouraged him to go back to tracking in my preferred direction aka the track and he did. I didn't really make a big deal out of it we just carried on.

The last track he crossed the side walk without thinking twice. Actually his second thought was to come back for the hot dogs on the side walk.

I think we are tracking consistently enough that it doesn't feel like everytime is the first time. So Monday, I will probably put a turn in and see how he does.

Just watched Saber—that was fantastic! It was so easy to see her testing the parameters and making great decisions! Well done both of you!

Syd: NV: Excellent. You can see him figuring it out. On the veg he was slow to start, and then clicked in. I think puppies just do that….spacey, puppy like behavior and then whammo, the real thing. His articles are gorgeous!! Down on the food drop? Puppy/greenie thing. He looks great!!! In the not too distant future he’s going to have the mental maturity to put it all together, and when he does, be prepared to be amazed. The nose and the brain are both working hard, they just aren’t quite working together. Go ah…
