Location: Holly Ridge Farm in Ashland, VA

Weather/Conditions: 44 degrees, minimal wind

Cover: Grass

Age: 1 hr 45 min - was aiming for 2 hours but ran out of daylight

Tracklayer: Matt

I asked Matt to put in 1 turn track with 10S, 15W, food or article at 8/9 steps using 6 articles and to flag about 10 steps before the turn. He follows instructions well. My plan was to age track for 2 hours but he didn't get it in until 3:15 and the sun sets a 5 so it was about an hour and 45 minutes.

Saber's start was not impressive. I was also impatient and was trying to push her down the track. Also if you watch the video, my line handling is terrible. I think I felt rushed trying to beat the sunset. Once she got going she was golden. Her article indications where good. One interesting one was a glove with food on it not in it. She stopped and sniffed next to it. She didn't eat the food until I asked her to down and gave it to her. I guess something smelled good out there.

Her turn was good. I had the flag so I knew the turn was with in 10 feet but I did not know what direction it went. Saber with the nose did. This was not my best work but Saber was good and the age did not seem to be a problem.

Trying to push the dog down the track is probably my worst habit, and it takes a lot of self discipline to corral it! I’m glad you were able to identify it.

Sounds like you need to work starts, maybe Sunday? I love that she found the turn and you didn’t know where it went…. Great training!
