The start was not as strong as I would like but once Saber got going she was leaning into the harness and trucking down the track.
There was a round bale at the first turn. She checked out to the right and quickly got back on track. There was an article about 25 yards past the turn as we paralleled the woodline. She downed without prompt. I rewarded her and she quickly got back to work.
At the open turn back out into the field she circled around but made the turn definitively. Out in the field there was a 90 right back to the woods. She nailed it and did not check out her options. There was a food drop 10 yards past the turn. She found it no problem 😂.
She entered the woods with no hesitation. There was a food drop about 15 yards in the woods. Then I tried to mess up Saber but she was having none of it. I thought she overshot the turn. I gave her line to figure it out. Then I realized she was right. Oops. Good, Saber 😬
She crossed creek no problem and took the immediate left that I did. She stopped to sniff the leather square article but I had to ask for the down. It was not a strong indication.
Then she meandered through the woods almost exactly as I did. She went around a long I stepped over. But food the food drop right after it so it was not much of a deviation.
She exited the woods a little to the left of where I did but I think it was because she was trying to roll in wild animal poop (this girl is all class...). Strong finish. Good final article indication.
When I get this kind of tracking at 4 hours I'll feel more ready to test.
Kelly, when you get to a turn, I’d like you to turn 90-180 degrees in the wrong direction. Let her take line in the correct direction (while you are facing in the wrong direction), and when you have about 5 feet of line left, turn and follow her….move up the line to 10’ and do it again on the next turn, woods entrance, whatever. Does that make sense? You are going to intentionally turn in the wrong direction every time she faces a decision point. You will let her go…and follow after she’s fully committed.
