Saber

275 Yards on concrete, grass, and mulch

Age 30 minutes

Video:

Saber was fantastic. Her confidence and enthusiasm are strong, which thrills me. She was not super excited about hard surfaces, but I think she is starting to enjoy it. I've focused on building her skill on concrete and she is starting to impress me.

She had a strong start, went under the building overhang exactly where I did. She checked out chalk left on the sidewalk and dismissed it. She over shot her turn but hit the parking lot, head came up with loss of scent and she immediately made the turn. She did stop to sniff a bush, which did not do when putting in the track but we all know she has her own opinions. She transitioned between grass and concrete smoothly.

She went a little wide (3-4 ft) on the grass towards the end, which might have led to a missed article in a test. Her article indications were a little better today but not as auto and unprompted as I would like. Overall I was very happy with her.

Next we will age the concrete 45 minutes and include transitions again. I will do a separate track on asphalt. My plan is to try and build her skill and confidence on asphalt like I have done with the concrete and then start stringing them together.

Syd

Three tracks 10-15 minutes old

Track 1: Straight line, 10 scuff, 10 walk

Track 2: Left turn, 12 scuff, 12 walk

Track 3: Right turn, 15 scuff, 15 walk

Video:

The straight line was a warm up to try and get his head in the game. He launched off the start, but I didn't like it and started over. Syd did ok. It didn't wow me. He has the sniffing and pulling into the harness down pat. However, what he is sniffing and the direction he is pulling is highly questionable at times. I also had to intervene during some illicit snacking (labradors). When he is on task he does fantastic. Keeping him on task is a challenge. We had straight moments and wiggly moments.
